Wraith…(Wikipedia: Spirit)
When coming up with a name for a product, whenever possible, a manufacturer creates a mental link relating the word to the final actual experience. Success occurs if the name lives up to anticipation.
With cables this is all the more difficult.
After all, wires are simply wires, are they not?

Yes and no. A wire may be the conductor but it is not a stand alone item, it is so much more.
Its conduction and behaviour is modified by many factors - the actual metal, its purity, the sleeving (the dielectric) and finally the construction. All combine and interact in rather complex ways altering signal transmission.
We perceive the combined end result.

Funk’s raison d’être is one of ever closer fidelity.
Having auditioned many cables, we felt that our cables held that rather special quality of allowing more of the spirit of the music to come through. Wraith seemed an altogether natural name for it. We hope you agree.

A pre-requisite to Wraith is that all materials used are ultra high purity.
Note that statement did not conclude with the word “metal”.
Wraiths are designed to perform to the limit at each price point and to this end every choice of material and construction is the best we know how and this includes the dielectric and construction.

Every manufacturer agrees that PTFE is the best dielectric there is and employ it in their top performing cables. And so you would think that is what we would do as well.
Not so.
In Wraith, PTFE, superb though it is, is NOT the primary dielectric. An even better one exists. It is more linear and so sounds better.
It is air, the best dielectric on planet earth. It is audibly better, with PTFE following second.
The problem is that air presents manufacturing obstacles, making it less than ideal for mass market production and consumption.

Well, as you know, our passion is analogue purity so as a result, Wraith conductors pass through predominantly an air dielectric with a PTFE housing providing the mechanical structure.
The distinction with Wraith is the air gap, such that the differences between a PTFE based cable and Wraith are readily apparent.

Wraith is not something that you can obtain off a reel and have to be meticulously crafted.

Wraith series cables are highly specified and are available as interconnects and speaker cables, carrying higher current.
There are three in each range:

Audition Wraith at your dealer or contact us and hear what we mean.

Ivory: a Gold plated Copper conductor. This is Unique to Funk. This conductor is a very clean sounding.
Interconnect & Speaker:

Ebony: This is Ultra high purity Silver. Silver is often regarded as bright. We discovered that impurities at even low levels are responsible for this quality. Our silver is one decimal lower than usually available in cables.
The sound is this described as very sweet and open

Amethyst: Pure Palladium. One of the Platinum series of metals, Palladium’s rarity is reflected in its price. The rewards, however, are easily justified. Wraith Amethyst presents the most ethereal and transparent performance of any cable we know.
